SF Tarnava-Mare LogoEstablished in 2005, our objective is to promote local food and culture and the Slow Food concept of food that is good quality, clean and free of chemical residues and fair in terms of price to the producer and cost for the consumer. In 2006, we were honoured to have a visit by Carlo Petrini, the founder of Slow Food.

 

Our activities are promoting heirloom tomatoes and discussing the concept of Slow Food with children .

 

Our events focus on Courtyard Dining with seasonal local ingredients cooked as for the family. We also promote some of the great Romanian wines now available. Dinner costs Ron50 per person plus the cost of the wine consumed. Numbers are limited to around twelve people so booking in advance is essential.

 

MEMBERSHIP

Slow Food is a membership based organisation. Part of the membership fee is retained by Slow Food Tarnava Mare towards operating costs such as hosting this web site. The balance is sent annually to Slow Food in Italy.

 

To get maximum benefit from being a member it is important to actively participate

We can accept cash payment in RON or you can join online selecting Romania and then your preferred convivium. See list of current convivia in Romania.

 

OUR COMMITTEE

JimTurnbull is Founder and Chairman of Slow Food Tarnava Mare. Established in 2005, it was the first convivium in Romania. He started pioneering food tourism in 2005 with the first group coming from Slow Food Oxford. He was the founder and coordinator for Saxon Village Preserves, a founder of the Bucharest Earth Market and he made a presentation at Terra Madre in 2008 on the potential for food tourism and how this  linked to the  objectives of Slow Food.  He is also CEO of the Transylvania Food Company Srl - further details can be found at  www.PivnitaBunicii.ro
